Memories from 1973

Bob Meulemans posted the following as a comment to one of menu pages.  I’ve moved it over here so it can be seen by everyone.  Thanks for the great post Bob…

Hi everyone,
My name is Bob Meulemans and I was a Cadet for 2 years at PMA (1971-73) I just finished watching the Reunion video while recouperating from knee replacement and a flood of memories hit me like a title wave. Especially my last night there standing on the steps of Wilson Hall with tears flowing looking at a U.S. Flag as big as the state of Texas over by where the closing ceremonies had just finished in front of Johnston Hall by the library and thinking that OH HOW I HATED THE IDEA of attending a Military School and how UNFARE it was to me when I 1st got here, but then at that moment I didnt want to leave that it was a privilage that I had just experienced being a Cadet at Peacock Military Academy. Fully knowing I would never probably ever return, being from New England, I sneaked over to the Senior Terrace next to my Barracks (Wilson Hall) and snatched a patch of grass and put it in a piece of paper (wasnt ever allowed on it), I still have it and every single memory of my education, teachers, coaches and fellow Cadets which have been an influence in my life even at a tender young age of 53!. I have been trying to attend the past reunions, however every time there was a reason stopping me. Know this my family knows well the importance PMA has been in my life and I hope their children also learn of it. God Bless All of You……..and God Bless America.

  1. Hey Meulemans, Bill Tuttle here. I remember you well as I was a squad leader there at Wilson Hall while you were there. Good post !!! I too remember the final ceremony, and being a Junior that year, felt that I had been cheated out of not being able to graduate from PMA. We all went to San Marcos Academy to finish up our Senior year, but it was just not the same. I was A Batallion Commander there, but it just was not as big of a deal as if I would have graduated from PMA. The years that I spent at PMA were the best years of my life. To this day, I am a better person from just the three years I was there. Those 3 years at PMA are the reason that I have been so successful in life from from the lessons that I learned there. Hope that you and yours are all well.

  2. Hey BILLY!!!!
You remember me!, what a time we had, you left one heck of an impression on me (Good, 😉 ) You showed me how to become a drummer in the band and to this day without even thinking I keep tapping out the marching cadences….it drives my wife of 37 years nuts………. I wanted to go to San Marcus, do you remember the football game we played? we really went at it, any ways my parents were in the middle of a divorce and the end result was me going to public school. I ended up in the military and then went into Law Enforcement (State Corrections) had a fantastic career and then retired with a nice benefit package. Now I am happy here in Florida (4 children and 7 grand babies) and I am the President of a Youth Football & Cheer organization http://www.eastmarionmustangsfootballandcheer.com check us out. Look at the picks, I’m the big guy, maybe you might recognize me, I’m alot older now, kinda worn down, but haven a blast. Would love to talk to you some day we had a great experience at PMA that I will always keep with me…….maybe like the time you ………………I’m sure someday we can finish that one!!!! I so miss all of it, we were very lucky to be a part of the best there ever will be, A PMA CADET!!!

    Stay well my friend
    Bob Meulemans
