Who We Are
About Peacock Military Academy
Peacock Military Academy traces its origin to 1894 when Professor Wesley Peacock, Sr. established Peacock’s School for Boys, in San Antonio, Texas. The school’s transition to a military school began in 1902 with the addition of a Military Department and the appointment of a Commandant of Cadets. In 1904, Peacock’s School for Boys became the Peacock Military School, a full-fledged military institution and one of three institutions in Texas recognized as such by the Federal Government. In 1908 the War Department awarded Peacock an “A” classification, the first school in Texas to receive this high distinction. In the following years Peacock consistently received the highest possible annual ratings from the Department of the Army and perennially designated an HONOR SCHOOL. Because of the exacting standards of its military program, Peacock was widely known as “The West Point of Texas.”
Peacock ceased operation in 1973, after having educated and trained more than fifteen thousand boys from Texas and a multitude of other states and foreign countries to become self-disciplined men of sound character, personal integrity, and honor. In 1973, the buildings and grounds of the Academy were deeded to the Salvation Army, which currently operates a community center there known as the Salvation Army Peacock Center.

Peacock Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc.
Established in 1983 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, the Association’s mission is to preserve the legacy of Peacock Military Academy and the more than fifteen thousand young men who between 1904 and 1973 comprised the Corps of Cadets. The Association’s headquarters and museum are in the historic Wesley Peacock House that the Association jointly maintains with the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.
As Alumni, we believe that to prepare young men and women for adult responsibility and leadership, military training integrated with academic training will provide our country with alert, self-sufficient men and women who respect and can assume the obligations and duties of civil life. It was as cadets at Peacock, that we developed self-confidence and learned how to accept responsibility and how to “get-along with our fellow man.” Our aspiration is that the legacy of Peacock Military Academy and the Corps of Cadets will inspire new generations of young men and women to attend high schools, colleges and universities that offer programs integrating military training with vigorous academic training, to produce students and graduates of sound character, personal integrity, and honor, and who go out into their communities fully prepared to assume the obligations and duties of citizens of this great country.
Among the projects the Association currently sponsors in furtherance of its outreach mission is a scholarship program available to first year and second-year college students enrolled in Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs at their respective colleges and universities. The Association also annually awards medals to high school students (e.g., Marine Military Academy) who have exhibited Scholastic Achievement-Character-Leadership-Aptitude in their junior year. Soon, we hope to sponsor civics-themed public speaking and essay writing contests open to local high school students.
Membership in the Association is open to Peacock alumni, former students and faculty.
